Kapnuz Updates

The latest Movie buzz is now available on KapNuz at http://kapnuz.com/movies

After a long break, I’ve finally managed to get some time to update KapNuz.

World News is now available on KapNuz.

The following new categories have been launched today:

• Technorati: This brings the best of news from some of the Top Blogs listed at Technorati
• SEO Techniques: The best of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques under one page.
• Science News: The latest news from the world of Science.

You should see a significant improvement in page load time now.

Over the last few hours I’ve learnt several new optimization techniques, many of which have worked wonders on KapNuz.

Take for instance, the page load time for the main page. It has dropped from 21 seconds to <1 second now!

The main culprit turned out to be the way I was handling the website favicon’s. With caching and some smart cron jobs, the page load time has improved drastically.

With a bulk of the performance improvements done, I can now focus on getting the 50 odd pending categories uploaded to the website.

The following categories have been introduced on KapNuz today:

1. Windows News
2. Linux News
3. Telecommunication News
4. Gaming News

A long list of categories is in the works, and you should see a constant flow of new categories added on a daily basis for a few weeks, henceforth!

If you believe there are websites that should be a part of the above categories, do drop a comment.

With “Alpha 1“, we also introduced the concept of categories. This makes it easier to organize and present news under relevant sections.

Currently there are only a limited number of categories on KapNuz as the website is still in Alpha testing. But, this should not stop you from shooting of comments under this post on what categories should finally be on this website.

Suggest the categories (and websites) that should be on KapNuz.

I am pleased to mention that the 1st Alpha version of the KapNuz implementation is now up and running. There are some visible defects that needs to be sorted out, but on the whole, the base infrastructure is now implemented.

Do play around with the website, and provide your feedback.

Alpha 2 will be out in a weeks time. We will look at fixing some of the known bugs and optimizing the performance a lot more.

I registered kapnuz.com yesterday and this blog has been set up a few minutes back.

The implementation & design will be started shortly. I expect the pre-alpha version to be up in a couple of weeks.
